Heading down to visit the Grandparents. Northville to Sarasota. Just me and my son. Tablet is filled with movies, plus some extra in seat activities and snacks. Redbull and protein bars for me. Podcasts loaded up. May try to cannonball it straight through, but won’t risk anything if I’m tired. May book a room, may nap in a well lit parking lot if it looks REALLY safe.
What am I leaving out? Sbarro Challenge for your time.

That looks like an 80’s version of some sort of futuristic crossfire

Caffeine will dehydrate you, which leads to the inverse effect you’re trying to achieve. For every can of Red Bull, try to offset the can with a bottle of water. Also, try and keep the window cracked a smidge so you can exhaust the buildup of CO2 from the interior and maintain a steady flow of fresh air into the vehicle.
Also, something else that may help is getting out of the vehicle and stretching your legs every two hours. Even if it’s only for about 5-10 minutes, it’ll still help keep your blood flowing.
Drive safe, and good luck! Happy Hollidays!

You forgot the death metal. It’s never too early to introduce your kid to death metal.

20 hours sounds like a lot in one go... especially when your co-pilot is still in pre-school.
be careful of getting too amped up on the caffeine drinks when you’re getting tired. especially in those pre-dawn hours.
anyway... i’m sure you know this, but every road trip needs handy wipes, or wet naps, or baby wipes or whatever... if youre 4 years old or 40 years old, they always come in handy. a roll of paper towels is sufficienct.
then i would just say... the numbers to your insurance, a credit card, device chargers, and a radar detector (if youre the kind of guy who may find use for a radar detector).
good luck! happy holidays.

Good luck! Didn’t know there was another OPPO right around the corner from me (I’m in Canton).
We went straight through over night (rotation of 3 drivers so people could sleep) with a 2 year old from Canton to Bluffton SC, 16 hours.
Keep a tablet charged for the kid and you’ll do fine.

Thanks!. Definitely have wipes and bleach wipes for public bathrooms. I don’t speed too much and am erring toward the side of caution. I should add I’m 36 and not trying to set any records. My precious cargo in the back is number 1 priority. Only going straight through if I feel great.

Make it interesting - give your kid one of the Redbulls.

Tablet situation is handled big time. Canton Oppo, do you go to the Plymouth Concours in late July? If you don’t, you should!

HA! Great idea in the last hour, right before I make the hand off to the grandparents for a while.

Concours d’Elegance of the Americas, I think. Something like that. At St’ John’s. Lots of million dollar rarities.

My kids always do better if we leave early in the morning. I try to load the car the night before and go to bed early. I plan for one sleep cycle (3-4 hours, depending on your sleep habits), get up around 1:00am, load the kiddos, then take off. The first stop of the day is when they wake up. It’s usually time for breakfast.
Make plenty of stops. Time at a small playground would not be time wasted. Skip the McDonalds Playland and find a local park. Get out and RUN!
Plan on staying at a hotel. My kids always LOVED stopping at a hotel. Even better if it has a pool. Great way to burn off some energy.
Two ten-hour days will be much easier than one twenty hour day. Time it right and he’ll sleep through half of it.
For a four-year-old, time is an unknown quantity. Be prepared to convert time into something they know. “You could watch Cars three times and Star Wars twice before we get to Grandma’s house.”
For yourself, find a good audio book. Stephen King has some great novels that are unabridged. I’m guilty of sitting in the driveway when I arrive at the destination to get to the end of the current chapter.
These tricks have helped me survive the twice-yearly trips to see grandparents. I hope you find them useful!

You are lucky winter is late this year! Hopefully on the way back up, winter doesn’t decide to show up. That would certainly lengthen a long trip like that. This is why I tend to keep road trips (unless its to a ski mountain) to the spring/summer/fall time.

Stuff the kid full of Dramamine.
